During a visit to a beautiful garden with my Mimi and Ma, I found myself captivated by the many flowers surrounding me. I was photographing the beauty that caught my eye, but this particular orange flower wasn’t the one I had intended to capture. It wasn’t until I went back through my photos that I noticed it, shining brightly in the background. Its vibrant color stood out so beautifully that I couldn’t help but wonder how I had missed it while standing right there in its presence.
It made me think about how often we do the same thing in our walk with YHWH. Sometimes, when we become distracted by what we are searching for, we overlook the beauty He has placed right in front of us. We may not recognize His presence in a moment, understand what He is showing us, or see the purpose behind something until we look back. Yet, when we revisit those moments with a different perspective, what we once overlooked can suddenly become impossible to miss.
Perhaps it isn’t that YHWH wasn’t there, but that our attention was elsewhere. And sometimes, it is only when we reflect on where we have been that we begin to recognize how He was working all along. Like this unexpected orange flower, His presence and goodness can stand out even more in hindsight, reminding us that He was there all along, quietly revealing His beauty in ways we didn’t initially see.
This painting is a reminder to slow down, draw near to YHWH, and become more aware of the beauty He surrounds us with. May we learn to recognize Him not only when we look back, but also in the very moments we are living. Sometimes, the most beautiful discoveries are the ones we never intended to find.
